procurement reform

The Construction Industry Development Board Act, 2000, establishes a means by which the Construction Industry Development Board (cidb) can promote and implement policies, programmes and projects aimed at procurement reform, standardisation and uniformity in procurement documentation, practices and procedures within the framework of the procurement policy of government through the:

  • establishment of a national register of contractors (and if required, consultants and suppliers);
  • establishment of a register of projects;
  • publication of a code of conduct for the parties engaged in construction procurement;
  • issuing of a Standard for Uniformity in Construction Procurement; and
  • establishment and determination of best practice.

The cidb has established a register of contractors and is in the process of establishing a register of professional service providers.
